Porcelain Veneers (Lumineers)

If you do not like your smile, find yourself hiding it or not smiling at all, Veneers or Lumineers may be your answer. Veneers can be described as porcelain shields that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They provide beauty and strength while preserving tooth structure.

A variety of cosmetic dental problems can be corrected such as tooth discoloration, spaces or gaps between the teeth, tetracycline staining and broken or misshapen teeth.

First, a complete oral exam and smile analysis are done along with any needed x-rays. The teeth and gums need to be clean and healthy before any Veneers can be placed as gum disease will affect the appearance and longevity of the veneers.

Then deciding whether to place Veneers or a combination of Veneers and other cosmetic procedures needs to be determined. However, please note that when placing Veneers on the lower front teeth that some enamel recontouring usually is needed in order to allow space for a thin layer of porcelain. This is especially important if the lower front teeth make contact with the backs of the upper front teeth.

Whitening (bleaching) may be recommended first to whiten your teeth. Then any discolored fillings are changed to match the new whiter shade of the teeth before the Veneers are done. This makes it much easier to give you the whiter shade and consistent smile that you desire.

Once placed the Veneers will require good oral hygiene and care so that they will last and serve you well for a long time.
